What happens if you don't replace a missing tooth?

What happens if you don’t replace a missing tooth?

It is fairly obvious that if you have a missing tooth, you are going to have some trouble breaking down food. PHOTO | FILE

Missing teeth cause problems that stretch beyond aesthetics, including serious health complications. Although if you visit your dentist at the right time and discuss about the options of missing tooth/teeth replacement and get the appropriate treatment done, you can maintain your oral health at its best also on the long term basis.

Some common treatment options for the missing tooth/teeth are removable prosthesis like dentures, fixed teeth prosthesis like dental bridges or dental implants.

In certain cases, the combination of implant-bridge prosthesis can also be advised. Let’s discuss some common problems associated with missing tooth in the oral cavity.

1. Jaw bone loss at site: Consider that when you exercise your body, you help to keep muscle tone – jaw bone mass is preserved when you stimulate through biting and chewing. If you are missing a tooth, the area where your tooth stood will no longer receive the same amount of stimulation and will begin to disappear.

2. Neighboring teeth will become misaligned: If you do not have adjacent teeth, teeth will begin to shift into the vacant gap created by your missing tooth.

Drifting teeth will also destabilise the roots of the adjacent tooth. Also the opposite tooth to the missing space will keep on over-erupting and might become loose if left for long.

3. Change of facial structure: Your facial structure relies heavily on the structure of your teeth. When you have a missing tooth for too long, your facial muscles can begin to droop and cause a change in your facial appearance which can lead to a huge loss of confidence.

4. Disruption to your daily life: A missing tooth can cause chronic headaches as your remaining teeth do not have opposing teeth to bite down on to. Remaining teeth can begin to over erupt and damage opposing gums and cause pain. Overtime this will cause dull headaches.

5. Overload on the adjoining teeth: Humans have 32 teeth, but each and every tooth has got its specific function like front teeth-the incisors are in the front of your mouth.

These are the teeth that you use to take bites of your food helps in biting; Canines are the next type of teeth, these are sharpest teeth and are used for ripping and tearing food apart; Premolar and molars are used for chewing and grinding food.

If even one tooth is missing the load of function becomes more on the adjoining once present in the mouth leading to more occlusal wear and tear causing sensitivity and even fracture of the adjoining teeth.

6. Speech and chewing problem: It is fairly obvious that if you have a missing tooth, you are going to have some trouble breaking down food, though many people do not realise that missing teeth also affects the way you speak which can cause some embarrassment and confidence issues.

Overtime, digestion can be affected as your mouth cannot break down foods correctly.

7. Sinus expansion: This is particular to teeth that are lost from the back upper jaw. When this occurs, the sinus cavity located above can expand, eroding your jaw bone

Magufuli commended for brave move on second mineral sands report

Magufuli commended for brave move on second mineral sands report

Dar es Salaam. Development stakeholders have extended their views on the second probe team’s report which was handed over on Monday to President John Magufuli that looked into mining contracts and their economic impact.

The report showed that Acacia Gold Mining had been siphoning the country’s resources through dubious contracts while mentioning names of different former politicians who were largely involved in them.

According to the Senior Researcher at Repoa Abel Kinyondo the report is commendable and can be effective in correcting the past mistakes in the mineral and energy sector for development if the recommendations would be thoroughly executed.

He explained that the first strength of the report is the request that all contracts be reviewed in Parliament meetings which he said would give more room for analysis before they are signed.

Kinyondo went on that another factor is the mentioning of former government officials who were directly involved in signing bogus contracts to be the best approach to address the problem from its roots.

“This increases accountability to public officials since they know that now they have to take responsibilities for their actions,” he said.

Mr Kinyondo also added that this demonstrates how other committees should also work to dig out dirt that pulls back the nation’s effort toward economic revolution. He is of the view that President Magufuli has shown boldness in dealing with issues of corruption, something that gives confidence to such committees in carrying out their duties deligently, knowing they have president’s support.

University of Dar es Salaam’s Economics department Professor Samwel Wangwe said the report has shown the great need to build capacity in managing the mining sector

MAGUFULI'S TIGHT MONETARY POLICIES IN EAC

Magufuli’s tight monetary policies in EAC

dailynews.co.tz

Jun 2, 2017 7:02 AM

WHEN President John Pombe Magufuli took over the chairmanship of EAC Heads of State Summit during the 17th EAC ordinary summit held early March, 2016 at Ngurdoto, Arusha, no one expected that he would give shocking plea to EAC secretariat- stop your lavish spending and spare the community funds to serve the poor!

His first summit after being elected in power, President Magufuli never showed any newness to the occasion and instead showed his true color by hammering what was unexpected to any of his fellow Heads of State and government.

In his acceptance speech, he never wasted time to pin point that he was of the opinion that the regional body was unwisely spending community funds something which does not reflect the actual state of the economies of the member states.

President Magufuli urged the Secretariat to take cost- cutting measures to rid the regional body from wasting its hard fought resources from their poor citizens and strongly warned members of the secretariat not to mess around with community money!

He pledged to take same measures implementing in his country to reduce government spending including curbing lavish spending on travels and meetings and went further to question as to why the secretariat favors convening meets in expensive resorts instead of using conference halls at the regional body’s headquarters.

The President challenged the Secretariat to become problem solver instead of being always ‘moaners’ and restrict them from being parasitic at the detriment of the poor citizens of member states.

He was of the opinion that the regional body is capable of effectively and efficiently running its business with the merger resources coming from members’ contributions if cost cutting measures were put in place and if Secretariat is to make rational financial decisions.

There were those who were not convinced if that would be possible and some even thought that the President was off target and ill informed. But today, one year down the road, President Magufuli has proved his doubters wrong.

During the 18th Ordinary Summit held in Dar es Salaam recently, where President Magufuli handed over the chairmanship to his Uganda counterpart, President Yoweri Museveni, it was reported that for the first time the regional bloc has managed to save about US $ 2.5 million from its budget due to cost cutting measures imposed during his chairmanship.

President Magufuli has identified himself with group of modern type of leaders who are earnest and shrewd with direct approach to issues. To many Tanzanians and to some of our neighbors, it was not a surprise!

He was well known since he was a minister that he was a person who was fond of fine details of all matters under his jurisdiction. He was never afraid of telling the truth or rather calling a spade a spade.

The good thing of him is his strong willpower and firmness to achieve what he believed to be achievable. He is a result oriented leader who is always geared to get the best out everything he believes and cherishes.

He likes challenges and that is what he distinguishes himself from others. He clearly knew that the promise to employ cost cutting measures at EAC secretariat was not an easy task but he was convinced that he has firm support of his fellow Heads of State and government of the member states.

As a leader he made his homework and see how viable was his appeal to introduce cost cutting at the Secretariat and he realized that, it can be done if and only if everyone plays his part.

He warned to use his leadership motto ‘Hapa Kazi tu’ in exercising his duties as Chairperson of EAC and also warned to use his style of ‘kutumbua majipu’ (translated literarily as sacking those who are incompetent/inefficient) to those who would not heed to his plea but fortunately things went well probably because Secretariat knew that Magufuli is a man of few words but means what he says.

Whilst, we congratulate President Magufuli for showing the way, appreciation should also go to members of the secretariat under chairmanship of the Secretary General Amb. Libérat Mfumukeko for not letting down President Magufuli and his fellow Heads of State.

And as the saying goes ‘When there is will there is a way’. He promised and he has delivered it. This is why they say ‘Magufuli always means business.’ Congratulations for your efforts to make new and prosperous Tanzania, Your Excellency, Dr. John Pombe Magufuli

The Rise and Fall of Prof Muhongo

The rise and fall of Prof Muhongo

thecitizen.co.tz

May 24, 2017 2:23 PM

President Magufuli delivered an emotional speech today, as he received the mineral sand saga report that was delivered by the chairman of the probing committee, Prof Abdulkarim Mruma. The report indicates that there is loss being made from the mineral sands being exported.

Concerning the Minister for Energy and Minerals Prof Sospeter Muhongo, the President said, “I love Prof Muhongo. He is my friend. But he will have to step down because of this.” This is not the first time that the minister has had to step down.

Prof Muhongo was among three MPs that president of the fourth phase government, Jakaya Kikwete, appointed in May 2012. Others were Ms Janet Mbene and Mr James Mbatia. He was thereafter appointed as Minister for Energy and Minerals. However, Prof Muhongo resigned on January 24, 2015 after being implicated in the Tegeta Escrow scandal. A year after President Magufuli came into power, he reinstated Prof Muhongo. Two years after Prof Muhongo resigned over Escrow, he now might have to resign over another scandal yet again.
